Wilderness Institute is a 4 week immersive course offered by Radford University. It is a unique educational experience for students studying Outdoor Recreation & Leadership. I consider it one of the most valuable parts of my education, and it was a great leap in my development as a leader. During my trip, I embarked on a journey that started in North Carolina and ended in Virginia. Along the way, my group and I practiced and facilitated a variety of outdoor activities including: canoeing/throw-bag rescue, rock climbing/repelling, caving, mountain biking, and backpacking. We also learned numerous skills such as: trip planning, food rationing, first aid, knot work, camp set-up, camp cooking, bag packing, and invaluable interpersonal skills.
